The Culture

The Culture is the ecosystem in which Impala Impact is rooted. These are the urban, culturally diverse networks where many of the most innovative cultural and social practices emerge.

Context

What is The Culture

Many of the most innovative cultural and social practices emerge outside formal institutions. In urban networks, postcolonial communities, informal collectives, digital platforms and temporary initiatives.

These ecosystems function on the basis of trust, shared norms and long-term relationships. We've been active here for years as researchers and makers. That gives us the position to measure impact in a way that fits these worlds.

Scale

The ecosystem

The Culture encompasses hundreds of initiatives, thousands of makers and participants, community leaders, cultural platforms and social organisations.

This is not a panel that's occasionally surveyed. It's a living ecosystem of which we are a part.

Methodology

Why this works

Our position within The Culture is the foundation for participation, validation, data quality and mutual trust. Without that foundation, Impala Impact would not function.

Communities see what happens with their input. Data is not extracted, but returned. That increases engagement and makes long-term collaboration possible.

Data

The data engine

Within Impala Impact, The Culture functions as the primary data infrastructure. Participants, context, validation and feedback all come from here.

Because we've been present for a long time, a continuously learning system emerges. Every measurement makes the next one better.
